The entry of Belarus (best result: 6th in 2007) is on a mission to cheer every single one of us up with its happyhappyhappy energy. The band 3+2 will perform “far away”.
While they certainly won’t win in Oslo, they’re determined to have a very gay time there. And why not?
But why are theye repeating the chorus over and over again until everyone loves to hate(?) it. I’m not sure this is the right way to the the top though. It’s kind of exhausting.
Let’s distract ourself from the forgettable song with a closer look at the performers.
While one of the guys reminds me of Marija Šerifović the girl wears something I first mistook for a neck tie (too bad, it turns out to be something like the opposite of this coolest accessory ever around a man’s woman’s neck).
But still she has a tomboyish attitude rarely to be found in performers from eastern countries. She wears pants(!) and appears on a scooter (=one of the top lesbian props of all time). The band acts like 3 people/friends, not like 2 guys and a girl.
(I hope they won’t loose all her tomboyishness on their way to Oslo…)
Are they actually singing: “I’ll ring the bell from behind”? (What a strong accent!)
I’m not gonna dig into that kind of subtext…
By searching the top lesbian line I came to realize that the whole song is just one big metaphore for the way to rainbow country:

WHY?
Apparently they’ve changed their entry. Not cool.
Instead of “far away” they wanna perform the ballad “butterflies”.
Admittedly the song is not too bad.
But they loose some of their lesbian points by changing the song.
On principle.
And because while the new lyrics are pretty lesbian too, the performance is not.
