Paula Seling and Ovi will represent Romania (best result: 3rd in 2005) with their song “playing with fire”.

Let’s be honest: the whole reason why I’m enjoying this performance is Paula.
It’s not the song.
It’s not the powerful performance.
It’s not the 2-pianos-thing.
It’s also not the pyrotechnics.
It’s certainly not their hairdresser.
And no, it’s definately not the boy-girl-emphasis.
But girl’s got attitude!
She could wrap us all around her little finger.
Yes, even US! She wears this tight leather jumpsuit especially for us!
And those boots! For US! (I must have missed the tattoos…)
But why is HE there?
In my world he should sing: “boy boy boy what a fight – come and spend with me the night”. (I have a feeling that he would prefer singing that line too…)
And it’s her turn to ask “girl girl girl can’t you see what you do to me tonight?”.
Too bad they switched lines.
Whomever they’re singing to – it can’t be each other.
There is no sexual chemistry between them. At all.
So while she is performing very confident and with a powerhouse of stage presence he tries to catch up on her energy. Together they put on a nice show they seem to enjoy.
This should make it to the final.
Examining the lesbianity of this I have to remind myself of the strong heteronormativity they promote on stage. (Or is it irony?) And of the fact that the song is not very good.
But hey, they still have their secret weapon Paula to score…
top lesbian quote:
Tell me now do you feel
this burning desire
don’t stop make it rock
is taking us higher
could it be just a dream
are you running away?
result: 82%lesbian
(I finally decided to explain the whole girl-boy-thing with irony. They’re playing with it. OBVIOUSLY.
Would you please look at him! – It’s just…wrong!)
